Ambassador HE Yafei held a reception on 16 of March to mark his assumption of office. About 200 distinguished guests including ambassadors and heads of UN agencies and international organizations, as well as overseas Chinese in Geneva attended the reception.

In his speech delivered at the reception, Ambassador HE said that the year 2010 is a very important year for the international efforts to combat financial crisis in promotion of early global economic recovery. Under the present new circumstances,collective efforts are essential. No country can do it alone. To further advance the noble course of peace and development for humanity, intensified cooperation and coordinated actions are called for on the part of the international community.

Ambassador HE stressed that China has all along championed multilateralism, and has been resolute in supporting the positive role of United Nations in maintaining world peace and security, promoting common development and safeguarding human rights. China has also stood for intensified international cooperation to meet global challenges and stands ready to work closely with our friends here in a bid to advance the multilateral diplomatic work on all fronts, so as to help serve China's domestic social and economic development, and to contribute to the durable peace and common prosperity of the world.

The guests welcomed and congratulatied Ambassador HE on his assumption of office. While expressing their appreciation of China's achievements made in the past years and its active and constructive role in the international affairs, they also hope to see China to play a bigger role in dealing with global challenges such as financial crisis, climate change ect.
