On December 13, 2013, the meeting of Senior Officials Committee of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) was held in Suzhou, China. Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the meeting. Representatives of both the CICA member states (including Kazakhstan, Turkey, Russia, India, Afghanistan and Egypt) and CICA observers (including the United Nations, Malaysia and Indonesia) attended the meeting. Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Province Fei Shaoyun and Vice Mayor of Suzhou Xu Ming were present at the opening ceremony.
Cheng Guoping spoke highly of the achievements the CICA has made in promoting regional peace and stability in Asia and in implementing confidence-building measures in various fields over the 21 years since its establishment. He emphasized that China will continue to actively participate in the processes of the CICA, maintain close communication and coordination with other sides, and jointly commit to promoting lasting stability and common prosperity in Asia on the basis of mutual trust, mutual benefits and equal coordination.
The meeting of Senior Officials Committee covered issues on the implementation of confidence-building measures in fields such as politics, economy and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, the future development of the CICA and others.
Xu Ming, on behalf of the Suzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and municipal government, welcomed representatives from various countries present at the meeting in Suzhou and introduced the social and economic development of the city.
