On October 22, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi met with FedEx CEO Fred Smith. Both sides exchanged views on issues of common concern including Sino-U.S. relations, bilateral economic and trade cooperation and the U.S. financial crisis.
