Special Envoy of the Chinese Government and Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun Visits China-Aided AU Conference Center Project Site

On January 30, 2010, the special envoy of the Chinese Government and Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun who was attending the 14th African Union (AU) Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia visited the China-aided AU Conference Center project site. Gu Xiaojie, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia and Representative to AU, accompanied Zhai during the visit.

Zhai listened to the report of the Chinese project leader on the latest progress of the project, extended greeting to all the Chinese workers and expressed gladness about the project progress. He said that the AU Conference Center project is one of the eight policy measures announced by President Hu Jintao at the 2006 Beijing Summit and China's largest assistance project in Africa after the Tanzania-Zambia railway. Receiving expectation from the African countries and attention from the international community, the project is of great political and diplomatic significance. Zhai hoped that the Chinese workers, with a great sense of responsibility and mission, work closely with the AU and the Ethiopian side to ensure the timely delivery of the project with high quality so as to make it a new landmark of China-Africa friendship in the new era.

The Chinese project team extended sincere thanks to Zhai Jun for his visit and greeting, saying that they will try their best to carefully organize the construction work, strictly control project quality and give back to the motherland, the AU and the African people with excellent performance.
