The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Launches the Joint Working Mechanism of the Foreign Affairs Offices of the Six Southern Provinces for the Handling of Foreign-Related Cases and Incidents during the Shenzhen Universiade

According to the general arrangements for the foreign affairs and security work for the Universiade, the meeting and the launch ceremony for the joint working mechanism of the foreign affairs offices of the six southern provinces for the handling of foreign-related cases and incidents during the Shenzhen Universiade was held in Shenzhen on June 9, 2011. Vice Foreign Minister Song Tao declared the official launch of the joint working mechanism. The leaders of foreign affairs offices of Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hunan, Fujian, Hainan and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Public Security Department of Guangdong, Foreign Affairs Office of Shenzhen, Public Security Bureau of Shenzhen and Offices of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong and Macao were present at meeting and ceremony.

Song Tao pointed out that the 26th World University Games in Shenzhen is another important major sports event hosted by China following the Olympic Games in Beijing and the Asian Games in Guangzhou. The foreign affairs offices of the 6 southern provinces and Shenzhen should fully draw on the experience of successfully running the Olympic Games in Beijing and the Asian Games in Guangzhou, develop customized work plans according to the specific characteristics of the Shenzhen Universiade, and improve the working mechanism. They should work in close coordination and cooperation between the provinces and between the provinces and Hong Kong and Macao, help public security departments and other functional departments properly handle all types of foreign-related cases and incidents by law so as to contribute to the success of the Universiade in Shenzhen.

The participating agencies and departments introduced their preparatory work, stating their commitments to conscientiously implement the requirements of the meeting, give full play to the role of the joint working mechanism, and work together to properly handle foreign-related cases and incidents during the Shenzhen Universiade.
