China and Canada Hold Consultation on Arms Control and Anti-proliferation

On January 15, 2009, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi had a courtesy meeting with Donald C. Sinclair, Director-General of International Security of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Canada, who is here in Beijing for China-Canada consultation on arms control and anti-proliferation. Both sides exchanged views on China-Canada relations, bilateral nuclear energy cooperation and other issues.

On the same day, Cheng Jingye, Director-General of the Department of Arms Control and Disarmament of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Sinclair held consultation on arms control and anti-proliferation between the two countries. Both sides discussed issues including the multilateral nuclear issue, the Iranian nuclear issue, the prevention of arms race in the outer space and missile defense. They agreed that the consultation, which was candid and pragmatic, helped the two sides better understand each other's positions and was conducive to enhancing bilateral exchanges and cooperation in relevant areas.
