2008/10/23

On the afternoon of October 23, 2008, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, met with Chairman of the Moldovan Parliament Marian Lupu at the Great Hall of the People.

Jia made positive comments on the development of bilateral ties since the establishment of diplomatic ties. He highlighted more frequent high-level visits, increasing political trust and expanding cooperation in fields such as trade, science and technology, military affairs, culture and education. Both sides have also cooperated closely in international affairs to safeguard their common interests. He also expressed his appreciation for Moldova's support to China on issues concerning Taiwan and Tibet. He noted China would always respect the Moldovan people's choice for their own national development. China will work with Moldova to expand bilateral cooperation of mutual benefit, push forward the traditional friendship and bring more benefits to the two countries and their peoples, said Jia.

Jia also voiced the CPPCC’s commitment to step up exchange and cooperation with the Moldovan parliament in various forms, calling on the two to learn from each other in terms of participating in the administration and discussion of state affairs and pushing forward economic and social development. He also urged both sides to give full play to their respective advantages and make contribution to pragmatic cooperation in all areas.

Lupu thanked for China’s disinterested assistance over the years. He said China’s successful hosting of the Beijing Olympic Games and overcoming of the earthquake disaster that hit China’s Sichuan province on May 12 show to the whole world the outstanding leadership of the Chinese leaders and the unremitting spirit of the Chinese people. Great changes have taken place in China over the three decades of reform and opening up, he said, pledging that his country will learn from China’s successful experience. Lupu reiterated Moldova would always adhere to the one-China policy, comprehensively boost friendly ties with China and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas to push the ties to one new level after another.
