On June 20, 2011, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Volodymyr Lytvyn, chairman of Ukraine's parliament Verkhovna Rada in Kiev.

During the meeting, Hu pointed out that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 20 years ago, China-Ukraine relations have been developing smoothly and achieved positive outcomes. Hu and President Yanukovych met twice last year, reaching important consensus on advancing China-Ukraine high-level exchange of visits and political dialogue and comprehensively uplifting the level of bilateral ties in the new situation. During Hu's current visit, the two presidents held content-rich talks, reaching important consensus on bilateral ties as well as international and regional issues of common concern. Both sides declared the establishment and development of China-Ukraine strategic partnership, which marked bilateral ties have entered a new stage of strategic cooperation.

Hu said the cooperation between the law-making bodies of China and Ukraine is a vital part of the bilateral relations. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China's NPC and the Ukraine parliament have maintained sound exchanges and cooperation with frequent exchange of visits between legislative bodies' leaders, special committees and friendship groups. Hu suggested that both sides give full play to the extensive representation of the two legislatures and make positive efforts to push forward bilateral pragmatic cooperation, regional exchanges and humanities cooperation so as to make new contributions to the development of bilateral ties at a higher level and in a broader area.

Lytvyn described Hu's current state visit as an important event in the history of Ukraine. The Ukrainian parliament supports the consensus reached by the two heads of state, he said, adding that the establishment and development of the Ukraine-China strategic partnership will benefit the Chinese and Ukrainian peoples. The Ukrainian parliament will dedicate itself to the cooperation between Ukraine and China and is willing to maintain and enhance exchanges with China's National People's Congress, Lytvyn said.
