In 2010, the friendly relationship and cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Djibouti developed steadily.
The two sides maintained a good momentum of high-level exchanges. In January, Minister Wang Jiarui of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee led a delegation to Djibouti. In May, ministerial-level representative Ahmed Ali Silay, who is responsible for international cooperation in the Foreign Ministry of Djibouti, visited China for the fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum. In June, Minister of Youth, Sports, Entertainment and Tourism Hasna Barkat Daoud visited China for the National Pavilion Day of Djibouti at World Expo 2010 Shanghai. Also in June, General Secretary of the People's Rally for Progress, the ruling party of Djibouti, and Speaker of the National Assembly Idriss Arnaoud Ali led a delegation to China and met with CPPCC Chairman Jia Qinglin.
On 19 March, new Ambassador of Djibouti to China Ismail Ibrahim Houmed presented his credentials to President Hu Jintao.
The two countries enhanced military exchanges. The eight vessels of the Chinese navy escort fleet called at Djibouti successively for replenishment, or emergency maintenance. In September, Chinese navy hospital ship "Peace Ark" visited Djibouti and provided medical service to the general public as well as government staff and military personnel of Djibouti.
Economic cooperation and trade between the two countries made good progress. The general hospital and the scientific research center of Djibouti were under construction with Chinese assistance. The contract for the design of the complete renovation project of the People's Palace had been inked. The Chinese side provided one million RMB yuan in emergency food assistance to Djibouti to help tackle the food crisis.
