Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with His Zimbabwean Counterpart Mumbengegwi

2010/02/26

On February 26, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Zimbabwean Foreign Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi.

Hailing the two countries as sincere friends, Yang said China and Zimbabwe have cemented their traditional friendship and worked closely in bilateral and international affairs since the two countries established diplomatic ties in April 1980. China thanked Zimbabwe for sticking to the one-China policy and offering support on issues concerning its core and major interests, Yang said. He said China is ready to work closely with Zimbabwe to actively implement the outcome at the fourth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and further enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation with Zimbabwe in politics, economy and culture so as to deepen bilateral relationship.

Mumbengegwi said Zimbabwe cherished the traditional friendship with China and regarded China as the most trustworthy friend. Mumbengegwi said Zimbabwe appreciated China's support for its drive to seek national independence and assistance to the country's development. Mumbengegwi urged the two countries to step up high-level visits and explore exchanges and cooperation in all fields so as to push forward bilateral ties.

They also discussed regional and international issues of common concern.
