Ⅰ.POLITICAL RELATIONS

China and Jordan established diplomatic relations on April 7,1977. And the relations have been developing steadily. From the Chinese side, many senior officials including the following have visited Jordan: Vice Premier Ji Pengfei, Vice Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Cheng Zihua, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC, Wang Renzhong, President Li Xiannian, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wu Xueqian, Foreign Minister Qian Qichen, State Councilor and Minister of Defense Qin Jiwei, Premier Li Peng, Vice Chairman of CPPCC Wang Zhaoguo, Vice Chairwoman of National People's Congress (NPC) Chen Muhua, Vice Premier Wu Bangguo, Chairman of NPC Qiao Shi, Ministerof Culture Liu Zhongde, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, State Councilor and Minister of Defence Chi Haotian and Vice Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Tomur Dawamat.  And from the Jordanian side, senior officials who visited China were King HUSSEIN, King Abdullah II, Deputy Prime Minister MAGALI, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs MARWAN AL QASEM, Minister of Foreign Affairs MASRI and speaker of the House Abdul Hadi Majali.

Ⅱ.ECONOMIC AND TRADE CONTACTS

China and Jordan have signed a trade agreement and set up a joint committee of economy, trade and technological cooperation, which has held four meetings. In the field of economic and technological cooperation for mutual benefits, China has built a sports center in Irbid for Jordan.

China mainly exports light industrial products, textile products, hardware products, grain and oil products and machine and electrical  products to Jordan and imports sylvite and phosphate.

In 2000, the total trade volume between China and Jordan was $253 million. China exported $201.8 million and imported $51.30 million.

The total volume of Sino-Jordanian trade in 2001 was US$274,000,000, of which the Chinese export was US$226,000,000, and import US$48,310,000.
