China and Turkey Hold Consultation on UN Affairs

On April 3, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai met with Director General for Multilateral Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Hasan Gogus, who is here in China for the consultation between the two countries on UN affairs. Cui said currently with an increasing of global threats, challenges and regional hotspots, the United Nations also faces the reform and other major tasks. China is ready to keep close consultations and cooperation with Turkey, which is playing an important and a unique role in regional and international affairs, he said. Gogus said the two countries have conducted sound communication and coordination on UN affairs, adding that Turkey hopes to push bilateral cooperation in the area to a new stage through enhanced regular consultations. On the same day, Director-General Wu Hailong of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Chinese Foreign Ministry held a consultation with Gogus, exchanging views with him on the reform of the UN and other issues of mutual concern.
