Kuwaiti Prime Minister Nasser Meets with Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi

On September 4, 2008, Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Muhammed al-Ahmed al-Sabah met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. Prime Minister Nasser warmly congratulated China on the complete success of the Beijing Olympic Games. He said Kuwait attaches great importance to its traditional friendly relations with China and highly appreciates China for treating Kuwait as an equal and offering it sincere assistance over the years. Nasser said Kuwait believes that China will surely score greater achievements and also hopes to take the opportunity brought about by China’s development to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with China. Yang said recent years have witnessed positive results achieved in bilateral friendly cooperation in all areas. China thanks for Kuwait’s staunch support on issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and Beijing Olympics. Yang said China attaches importance to the friendship with Kuwait and is ready to work with it to maintain high-level visits, deepen political trust, tap potential in economic, trade, energy and investment cooperation and advance humanities exchanges, so as to push bilateral ties to a new level. Yang also noted that China looks at the ties with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) from a strategic perspective and is ready to further strengthen cooperation with the GCC. On the same day, Yang also exchanged views with Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Al-Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah on bilateral ties and international and regional issues of common concern.
