On October 23, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun met in the Foreign Ministry with Colette Avital, Deputy Speaker of the Knesset and International Secretary of the Labour Party of Israel.

Zhai said since the establishment of diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have been developing rapidly. China attaches importance to ties with Israel and is ready to build up friendship and mutual trust and expand pragmatic cooperation with Israel to push for sustained development of bilateral friendly cooperative relations. Zhai hoped that the parliaments and political parties of the two countries will continue to strengthen exchanges, increase understanding and promote bilateral ties.

Avital hailed the rapid development of bilateral ties and fruitful cooperation in all areas. Israel attaches importance to ties with China and is ready to enhance parliamentary and party-to-party exchanges and promote practical cooperation between both sides. She reaffirmed that the Israeli government and parliament will continue to adhere to the one-China policy.
