Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei Meets with Afghanistan's Founding Father and Former King Zahir Shah

On December 4, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei met with Afghanistan's Founding Father and Former King Mohammad Zahir Shah in Kabul.

Wu said that both sides are traditional friendly neighbors and the two peoples have been living together in peace since ancient times. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between both sides and the Chinese government and people attach great importance to bilateral relations and would like to further consolidate bilateral traditional friendship and expand mutually beneficial cooperation. Wu made highly positive comments on Zahir's contributions to developing bilateral relations.

Zahir noted that the Afghan people have always held profound friendship towards the Chinese people and deem China its most friendly neighbor and reliable partner. The Afghan government and people thank for China's support and assistance in various historical periods and hope to work with the Chinese government and people to continuously consolidate and develop bilateral friendly cooperative relations. He also recalled with delight his visit to China in 1964 and asked Wu to convey his greetings to Chinese leaders and people.

Prior to this, Afghan Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah met with Wu and both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and the issues of common interest.
