On January 31, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, who was attending the London Conference on Afghanistan, met respectively with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Pakistani Foreign Minister Mian Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri.

When meeting with Karzai, Li congratulated on the obvious improvement of the Afghan political, security and economic situations. He said that the Chinese government will continue to support the Afghan reconstruction process and make contributions for Afghanistan to realize peace and development at an early date. Karzai thanked for China's important support over the past four years, indicating that both countries are located in the same region and linked by fate and Afghanistan earnestly hopes to deepen and strengthen bilateral relations. He emphasized that Afghanistan unswervingly pursues the one-China policy. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the areas of bilateral trade, education and personnel training.

Li and Lavrov were delighted with in-depth development of China-Russia strategic cooperative partnership over the past year and indicated that they will join hands in making arrangements in various areas for the exchange of visits between the leaders of both countries and do a good job in holding activities of the "Year of Russia". Lavrov noted that now it seems that the Songhua river pollution has exerted limited impact on Russia and he was satisfied with and thanked for the enormous efforts China has made to this end. Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on the Iranian nuclear issue, the Middle East situation, the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and the reform of the UN Security Council.
