On March 10th, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met in Diaoyutai State Guest Hotel with his Afghan counterpart Abdullah Abdullah. Li Zhaoxing said China-Afghan relations had been developing smoothly in recent years and China was willing to enhance exchanges with Afghanistan at all levels and in all sectors. The Chinese side expressed its appreciation to the Afghan government for supporting China over the issues of Taiwan and "East Turkistan". Li Zhaoxing pointed out that the peace and reconstruction process of Afghanistan was now in a critical period and the international community should continue to offer their attention and support in addition to the efforts made by the Afghan government and its people. He pledged that the Chinese government supported the Afghan government's efforts in promoting ethnic reconciliation, maintaining national stability and reconstructing national economy and would continue to assist the reconstruction of Afghanistan within its utmost capacity. Abdullah said the Afghan government highly prioritized traditional friendly relations with China and thanked China for helping the peace and reconstruction process of Afghanistan. He reiterated the support of his government for the "one-China" policy and for China's opposition toward the so-called "referendum" instigated by the Taiwan authorities. He said the Afghan government would further collaborate with China in fighting against East Turkistan terrorist forces.
