Chinese Vice Premier Huang Ju Meets with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia

On August 17, 2005, Huang Ju, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, met in the Great Hall of the People with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Huang said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 30 years ago, bilateral relations have been progressing smoothly and are showing a good momentum of multi-faceted and multi-level development. The reciprocal cooperation has scored remarkable results. The 30-year history indicates that Bangladesh is a close and friendly neighbor and a trust-worthy friend of China.

Huang said that China advocates that countries, large or small, should treat each other as equals and strive to achieve common development through mutually beneficial cooperation. The Chinese side gives priority to developing the relationship with Bangladesh and would like to work with the Bangladeshi side to push China-Bangladesh relations, especially the economic and trade relation, to a new high. To this end, both sides can start from the following areas: first, to take full advantage of each other's strength and actively expand the trade scale of high value-added products including mechanical and electronic products and high-and-new tech products; second, to keep expanding mutual investment. China will keep encouraging competent Chinese enterprises to invest in Bangladesh; third, to strengthen the cooperation in the construction of large project and try to fulfill the projects that are still under discussion as early as possible; fourth, to be committed to exploring new areas of cooperation such as energy development and agricultural technologies. It is believed that with the joint efforts of both sides, the overall level of mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Bangladesh will be continuously upgraded.

Zia said that she was happy to pay a visit to China on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. She said that the close and friendly relation between Bangladesh and China is growing smoothly. Bangladesh would like to work with China to earnestly implement the important consensuses reached the leaders of both countries concerning the development of bilateral relations in a bid to further promote the growth of mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas.

Following the meeting, Huang and Zia attended the reception for the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-Bangladesh diplomatic ties hosted by the Chinese People's Association of Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC).
