Wu Bangguo Meets with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Zia

On August 19, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) met with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia in the Great Hall of the People.

Wu said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries 30 years ago, both sides have enjoyed steady and sound development of the bilateral relations, new progress in the political, economic, educational and cultural cooperation and good coordination and collaboration in international affairs. The Chinese government and people cherish the friendship between the two countries and deem Bangladesh a good friend, neighbor and partner. China would like to work with Bangladesh to consistently develop the bilateral comprehensive cooperative partnership.

Wu noted that the two economies are complementary to each other and share huge potentials in the economic and trade cooperation. To strengthen economic collaboration and realize common development is the important content of the bilateral relations and China attaches great importance to developing the bilateral economic and trade ties and hopes that both sides can join hands to actively conduct industrial cooperation and explore collaboration in other areas so as to bring benefits to the two peoples.

Wu added that the NPC of China and the parliament of Bangladesh have been keeping friendly exchanges and both sides share the aspiration for deepened cooperation. The NPC of China stands ready to work with the Bangladeshi parliament to elevate the bilateral exchanges and cooperation at various levels and through all channels to a new height and push for the all-round development of bilateral relations.

Zia indicated that this is her eighth visit to China and she has witnessed the gratifying changes during each trip. This short, but very successful visit has brought the celebrations on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties to a culmination and promoted the progress of bilateral relations. Bangladesh gives top priority to China's experience of development, commits to the long-term friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides and expects to work with China to push for the development of bilateral cooperation in various areas in an all-round manner.

Bosh sides also briefed each other on the economic and social development and strengthening democracy and building the legal system in their own countries.
