Wen Jiabao Holds Talks with Fakhruddin Ahmed, Chief Advisor of Bangladeshi Caretaker Government

On September 16, 2008, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks at the Great Hall of the People with Fakhruddin Ahmed, Chief Advisor of Bangladeshi Caretaker Government, who is on a visit to China and to attend the closing ceremony of the Beijing Paralympic Games.

During the talks, Wen said China and Bangladesh had seen smooth development of bilateral relations since establishing diplomatic ties 33 years ago. The mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas has achieved positive results and has brought tangible benefits to the two peoples, contributing to peace and development of this region. Wen added China is ready to continue to adopt measures for further development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and build up the friendship between both peoples, so as to push for new progress of China-Bangladesh all-round cooperative partnership featuring long-term friendship, equality and mutual benefit.

Fakhruddin congratulated Beijing on the success of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. He hailed the steady development of Bangladesh-China relations based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. Fakhruddin thanked China for its long-term assistance for Bangladesh’s economic development, saying he hoped for even closer cooperative partnership. He said his country is ready to continue to keep high-level exchanges and expand economic and trade cooperation with China and welcomes Chinese businesses to invest in Bangladesh.

After the talks, Wen and Fakhruddin attended a signing ceremony of several bilateral cooperation documents including an agreement on economic and technological cooperation.
