Xi Jinping Meets with Fakhruddin Ahmed, Chief Advisor of the Bangladeshi Caretaker Government

On September 16, 2008, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met in Beijing with Fakhruddin Ahmed, chief advisor of the Bangladeshi Caretaker Government, who is here for a visit and for the closing ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

Xi welcomed Fakhruddin to visit China and to attend the closing ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. He also thanked the Bangladeshi side for its support of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and of China’s quake relief efforts.

Xi said the two countries have always adhered to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence since they forged diplomatic ties 33 years ago. He added that both sides have witnessed deepening political trust, steadily growing economic and trade cooperation and close coordination in international affairs. Xi expressed appreciation for Bangladesh's firm support for China on issues such as Taiwan, human rights and Tibet. "China will make concerted efforts with Bangladesh to push the bilateral all-round cooperative partnership to a higher level," Xi said.

Fakhruddin offered congratulations on the success of the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics, noting that the all-round friendship between Bangladesh and China would stand the test of time. The Bangladeshi government and people will support China forever and firmly adhere to the one-China policy. Bangladesh is willing to join with China to promote friendly cooperation, Fakhruddin said.
