On July 4, 2005, Chinese Minister of Finance Jin Renqing hosted the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Ministerial Working Luncheon for ministers from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and China. During the working luncheon, the ministers listened to and discussed the report of the ad hoc committee for the preparations of the Second GMS Leaders' Meeting. All of them sang high praise for the progress of the GMS cooperation since its First Leaders' Meeting and reached consensus on enhancing regional cooperation and promoting the GMS process. The ministers also reviewed the preparatory work of the Second Leaders' Meeting to be held the next day. They were satisfied with the preparations and would report to their respective leaders. The ministers discussed the Leaders' Declaration (Draft). Given the fact that the document has fully absorbed the opinions of the various countries and the Asian Development Bank and integrated the views of different parties after a number of discussions, they agreed to submit the draft declaration to the leaders' meeting for adoption. All the ministers believed the working luncheon is an important preparation session for the GMS Leaders' Meeting on the next day. The ministers should further enhance their relations and cooperation to serve the leaders' meeting mechanism well and promote the sub-region's economic development and social progress.
