Li Zhaoxing Holds a Phone Conversation with Ban Ki-moon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea

2005/09/20

Early on the morning of September 19, local time, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, who was attending the 60th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, held a phone conversation upon request with Ban Ki-moon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea.

Ban Ki-moon congratulated on the Joint Statement that was passed at the second meeting of the fourth round of six-party talks in Beijing, made highly positive comments on the constructive role China has played as a host and indicated that the ROK would like to continue its close cooperation with China and advance the process of peaceful resolution of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.

The success of the six-party talks once again shows that the peaceful resolution of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and the denuclearization on the Peninsula conform to the interest of all sides and are their common aspiration, Li said. China will continue to work along with other sides of six-party talks to fulfill the target of denuclearization on the Peninsula and safeguard its peace and stability.
