Hui Liangyu Meets with DPRK Premier Pak Bong Ju

On July 11, 2006, Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu met with Cabinet Premier of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Pak Bong Ju in the Mansudae Assembly Hall, Pyongyang. Hui conveyed the cordial greetings and best wishes from Premier Wen Jiabao to Pak. He said that the Chinese party and government attach great importance to bilateral ties and are ready to work with the DPRK to continuously deepen their friendly cooperation and push for further development of China-DPRK relations. Hui noted that economic and trade cooperation is an important part of bilateral ties. The mechanisms for bilateral cooperation have been improved with cooperation area steadily expanding. The two sides should bear in mind the principle of mutual benefit and forge ahead for better cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples. Pak said that the two countries are close neighbors. Bilateral ties have been developing continuously under the direct care of the top leaders of the two countries. The DPRK attaches great importance to bilateral relations and is delighted with the achievements in their friendly cooperation. His country is willing to further deepen the economic and trade cooperation with China in all areas. Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern. On the evening of the same day, Hui met with Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea Choe Tae Bok and Vice President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK Kim Yong Dae. They jointly attended the banquet marking the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between China and the DPRK hosted by Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK Wu Donghe in the Embassy. Prior to that, Hui laid a wreath at the Korea-China Friendship Tower and went to the Kumsusan Memorial Palace, Pyongyang, to pay respects to the remains of late leader Kim Il Sung.
