On December 14, 2005, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Kuala Lumpur.

Wen said that the establishment of China-Indonesia strategic partnership is a correct choice made by both sides according their respective development needs and has injected new vitality into the development of bilateral relations. Both countries are big developing nations holding great significance and to strengthen bilateral friendship conforms to the interest of the two countries and their people and is conducive to peace and development of this region and the world at large. China would like to work with Indonesia to comprehensively advance bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various areas by taking their strategic partnership as a new starting point.

Wen suggested that both sides launch their first strategic dialogue at an early date and hold consultations on bilateral relations, as well as international and regional issues. They should also strengthen financial cooperation and coordination on economic and energy policies, deepen economic and trade relations, try to fulfill the target of 20 billion US dollars for the trade volume in 2008 and that of 30 billion US dollars for the trade volume in 2010 and implement bilateral cooperation programs of infrastructure construction.

Susilo noted that Indonesia has great expectations for bilateral strategic partnership and hopes to comprehensively deepen cooperation in the areas of politics, society, economy & trade and security, as well as coordination and collaboration in international affairs. The Indonesian side is full of confidence about the prospect of bilateral trade and will make joint efforts with China to strengthen cooperation in the areas of energy, infrastructure construction, investment and agriculture. Susilo appreciated Wen's suggestions on enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation and jointly responding to the bird flu.

Susilo also indicated that Indonesia resolutely pursues the one-China policy. Wen expressed appreciation for this position.
