On September 26, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met respectively with Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda, Costa Rican Foreign Minister Bruno Stagno Ugarte, Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone, Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Uruguayan Foreign Minister Gonzalo Fernández and Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana on the sidelines of the 63rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

During the meeting with Hassan, Yang said that China-Indonesia relations have deepened continuously in recent years and that China stands ready to work with Indonesia to implement key energy and infrastructure projects and to incessantly deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields.

Hassan, for his part, made positive comments on the development of bilateral ties, expressing willingness to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese side on international and regional affairs so as to further advance their strategic partnership.

At the meeting with his Costa Rican counterpart, Yang thanked the Costa Rican government for its support on Taiwan, Tibet and the Beijing Olympics, saying relevant departments in China are actively implementing consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, and are speeding up the process of implementing bilateral economic and trade cooperation projects.

Stagno, for his part, said Costa Rica would abide by its commitments made when it established full diplomatic ties with China and stands ready to further widen the areas of cooperation between the two sides so as to incessantly reinforce and deepen bilateral ties.

When meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Yang congratulated Nakasone on taking office as Japan's new foreign minister, and said Sino-Japanese relations have showed a sound momentum of development. Yang added that China wishes to work with Japan to comprehensively implement the various consensuses reached by leaders of the two countries to deepen exchanges and cooperation in politics, economy, humanities and defense and constantly advance their strategic relationship of mutual benefit.

Nakasone, for his part, told Yang that the new Japanese government highly values Japan's relations with China and will actively pursue a policy of developing bilateral ties. He said the Japanese side stands ready to boost cooperation with China in various sectors to jointly push forward bilateral ties.

During the meeting with Frattini, Yang made positive comments on the development of China-Italy relations, expressing willingness to make concerted efforts with Italy to maintain high-level exchanges, take each other’s major concerns into consideration and further expand pragmatic cooperation in all areas.

Frattini expressed satisfaction with the development of bilateral ties, noting that the Italian government will adhere to the one-China policy and is ready to deepen bilateral cooperation on humanities, environmental protection and other areas through joint efforts of both sides.

During the meeting with his Pakistani counterpart, Yang said despite the changes in Pakistan’s political situation this year, bilateral ties have still maintained a momentum of steady development. China will unswervingly develop friendly ties with Pakistan and further deepen pragmatic cooperation in all areas. He expressed belief that during the rule of the Palestine People's Party (PPP), China-Pakistan relations will move forward in a sound and steady manner.

Qureshi said to develop Pakistan-China traditional friendly relations is an unswerving policy of the new Pakistani government. Pakistan deems China its most reliable friend and is ready to work with it to push bilateral ties to a higher level.

During the meeting with his Uruguayan counterpart, Yang said China thanked for Uruguay’s support on issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and the Beijing Olympics. China is ready to make joint efforts with Uruguay and take the 20th anniversary of the diplomatic ties as an opportunity to push bilateral friendly cooperative relations for sustained, comprehensive and in-depth development.

Fernández said Uruguay-China friendly cooperation goes back to ancient times and their relations have made continuous new progress since the establishment of diplomatic ties. The Uruguayan side is ready to deepen cooperation with China in all fields and keep closer bilateral ties, he added.

During the meeting with his Argentine counterpart, Yang said since China and Argentina established strategic partnership in 2004, the development of bilateral ties has entered a new stage. China attaches great importance to ties with Argentina and is ready to work with it to increase political trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas and push the ties to a new level.

Taiana said recent yeas have witnessed close exchanges at all levels and sound momentum of economic and trade cooperation. Argentina is satisfied with the development of bilateral ties in general and would like to enhance friendly cooperation with China to bring more benefits to the two peoples.
