From May 13 to 14, 2005, the first strategic dialogue between China and Japan was held in Beijing at which Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met with Japanese vice Foreign Minister Shotaro Yachi who was attending the dialogue in China.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo held talks with Shotaro Yachi. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on the bilateral relations and the regional and international issues of common concern and agreed that the dialogue is positive and beneficial and the dialogue process should be continued.
