Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei Meets with Delegation of Japan's Kyodo News Agency

On June 13, 2007, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei met with a 35-member delegation of Japan's Kyodo News Agency headed by President of Kyodo Ishikawa Satoshi in Fangfeiyuan, Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Wu briefed about China's policies on building harmonious society, on pushing for the construction of a harmonious world and on sticking to peaceful development, expounding the country's position on the current Sino-Japanese ties. Wu emphasized that the improvement of bilateral ties conforms to the trends of the times and the two countries' needs as well. Wu urged both sides, under the new situation, to expand common interests for the benefit of the two countries and the region at large, expressing hope that the media of the two countries can play a constructive role for sound development of bilateral ties. Stressing broad common interests of both countries, Ishikawa Satoshi said Kyodo, one of the leading news agencies in Japan, and its partners will strive to provide accurate and objective coverage about China to help build mutual understanding between the two peoples. Wu also took questions upon request on issues concerning East China Sea, six-party talks and kidnapping incident. The delegation, consisting of presidents and chief editors from more than 20 partners of Kyodo, is visiting China at the invitation of the Chinese State Council's Information Office as one of the events marking China-Japan Year of Cultural and Sports Exchanges.
