On June 14, 2007, Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei held a welcome reception for the visiting delegation of Japanese senior high school students in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Wu extended a welcome to the delegation. He said that China and Japan are close neighbors separated by a narrow strip of water. The two countries have similar cultures and a history of friendly exchanges over 2,000 years. Currently, China-Japan relations are now facing a new starting point. Further developing the good-neighborly relationship of friendship is in the interest of both countries and people. The youths shoulder the future of the two countries. The leaders of the two countries have reached important consensus to strengthen the exchanges between the youths, which are of profound significance to increasing the mutual understanding of the people and advancing the long-term, healthy and stable growth of China-Japan relations. The visit of the students is an important part of China-Japan Culture and Sports Exchange Year. He hoped that the students could take the opportunity to make new friends and increase understanding of China so as to contribute to China-Japan friendship in the future.
The representative of the Japanese students said that they would tell what they see and hear in China to their families, classmates and friends when they return to Japan so as to let more people know more of China. Wu had friendly talks with the visiting students in a warm atmosphere. At the invitation of China-Japan Friendship Association, the delegation consisting nearly 200 Japanese senior high school students from Osaka Prefecture, Aomori County, Nara County and Ehime County, visited China.
