Wen Jiabao Meets with Japanese Guests and Attends Reception to Mark 35th Anniversary of Normalization of China-Japan Diplomatic Ties

On September 27, 2007, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at the Great Hall of the People met respectively with a delegation of the association composed of Japanese Dietmen of the ruling parties for the development of Japan-China relations headed by former Japanese Prime Minister Mori Yoshiro, a delegation of the heads of Japan-China friendship groups headed by former Japanese Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama, and a large Japanese business delegation headed by Chairman of Japanese Business Federation (JBF) Fujio Mitarai and head of Japan-China Economic Association Fujio Cho. "Chinese and Japanese politicians followed the historical trend and made strategic decision to normalize diplomatic relations 35 years ago, turning a new chapter of the Sino-Japanese ties," Wen said. Practice over the past 35 years has proved that the strategic decision has benefited the two countries and their peoples and is also conducive to peace, stability and development of the region, he added. China-Japan relation is facing good momentum of development and opportunities, which should be cherished. The Chinese government will, as always, continue its friendly policy towards Japan to develop friendly neighboring relations of cooperation based on the three political documents, Wen said. He expressed hope that the two governments and peoples will work together to strengthen mutual trust, enhance cooperation and push for strategic reciprocal relations, to ensure long-term sound and stable development of bilateral ties. The Japanese side noted that Japan-China relations enjoy great improvement and development in the past year through joint efforts of both sides, and developing Japan-China friendly ties is not only vital to both countries and will also have positive influence on peace and prosperity of Asia and the world at large. They suggested both countries take the opportunity of the 35th anniversary to step up strategic mutually beneficial ties, keep high-level exchanges, and facilitate cooperation in the key areas such as environmental protection and energy saving. The Japanese guests also called on both sides to promote youth exchanges and cooperation between localities, and well hold various activities marking Japan-China Cultural and Sports Exchange Year, in a bid to cement mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples and push forward bilateral ties. The above-mentioned delegations are in China for a visit and the reception to mark the 35th anniversary of the normalization of the China-Japan diplomatic ties at the invitation of Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, China-Japan Friendship Association and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan and other officials attended the meetings. Following the meetings, Wen Jiabao and Japanese guests attended the reception to mark the 35th anniversary of the normalization of the China-Japan diplomatic ties.
