Q: Japanese Prime Minister claimed during debates in Diet that he would pay hommage to the Yasukuni Shrine in his own name on August 15. What is China?s comment on it?
A: It is well-known that the Yasukuni Shrine is, in Japan?s modern history, the symbol of expansion and aggression and still holds the memorial tablets of top war criminals. The crux of the matter is how the Japanese Government and Japanese leaders see and approach its history of aggression. We hope that the Japanese side earnestly stands by its solemn statements made so far on the issue of history and act prudently.
