Spokesperson on the Verdict Handed down By a Tokyo Court against Feng Jinhua

2001/12/11

Q: Sources said that on December 10, a Tokyo court sentenced Feng Jinhua to 10 months in jail with 3 years' suspension, for graffito on a lion sculpture in front of the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo. What is China's comment on this?

A: China has told Japan on several occasions that there is a political dimension to the Feng Jinhua case, and that the Japanese side should deal with it justly and reasonably. China deeply regrets the verdict, and will continue to provide necessary assistance to safeguard Feng's legitimate rights and interests.
