Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongloun

On February 15, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks in the Chinese Foreign Ministry with visiting Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongloun Sisoulith, exchanging in-depth views on advancing bilateral ties. China and Laos have witnessed a sound momentum of bilateral ties featuring frequent high-level exchanges, pragmatic cooperation in economy, trade and other areas and close coordination and communication in international and regional affairs, Yang said. He expressed appreciation for Laos's support of the one-China policy, adding that China is willing to make joint efforts with Laos to push bilateral ties to a new high. Echoing Yang's comments on bilateral ties, Thongloun said the Lao government attaches great importance to its relationship with China, always adheres to the one-China policy, and hopes the cooperation between the two countries will yield new fruits in various fields. The two sides also exchanged views on the Third Summit of the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation Program to be hosted by Laos, pledging their joint efforts for complete success of the summit. Thongloun is scheduled to pay an official visit to China from February 14 to 16, at the invitation of Yang.
