In 2010, relations between the People's Republic of China and Malaysia kept moving forward. Strategic cooperation between the two countries was deepened.

The two countries had close political contacts. In March, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and NPC Vice Chairman Wang Zhaoguo visited Malaysia. In April, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee Li Yuanchao visited Malaysia. In June, Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue and Secretary General of the Malaysian Foreign Ministry Tan Sri Rastam co-chaired the 12th China-Malaysia diplomatic consultations in Beijing. In April, President of Senate Dato' Wong Foo Meng visited China. Former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi attended the annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia and was elected member of the new Board of Directors. In September, Minister of Tourism Dato' Sri Ng Yen Yen attended the National Pavilion Day of Malaysia at the Shanghai World Expo. In December, Former Prime Minister Badawi attended the opening ceremony of the Asian Paralympic Games in Guangzhou. Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Datuk Dr. Wan Junaidi attended the closing ceremony.

Economic and financial cooperation achieved notable results. Malaysia remained China's largest trading partner among ASEAN countries. In April, the Malaysian branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China opened in Kuala Lumpur. In July, the third branch of the Bank of China in Malaysia opened in Klang. In August, the two countries approved converting Renminbi into Ringgit on their respective inter-bank foreign exchange spot markets.

Exchanges and cooperation in other areas proceeded smoothly. In August, Secretary General of UMNO Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan visted China. Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee Wang Jiarui met with him. The two sides signed the Memorandum on Exchanges and Cooperation Between the Communist Party of China and the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) of Malaysia. In the same month, Chinese National Tourism Administrator Shao Qiwei visited Malaysia, and exchanged views with his Malaysian counterpart Dato' Sri Ng Yen Yen on cooperation in eco-tourism, recreational tourism and cruiser tourism.
