Wen Jiabao Meets with Mozambican and Malaysian Guests Respectively

On September 1, 2005, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met respectively with Mozambican Prime Minister Luisa Diogo and Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Najib Tun Razak in Zhongnanhai. When meeting with Luisa Diogo, Wen said that the new Mozambican government has expressed willingness to strengthen the bilateral relations on many occasions since it was formed this February, which China highly appreciates. China also gives top priority to the bilateral relations and stands ready to keep closer political exchanges and mutual support in international affairs with Mozambique, enhance the economic and trade relations and in particular, try to expand the cooperation in the areas of agriculture, mineral exploitation, infrastructure and labor. Both sides also exchanged views on the reform of the UN. Wen emphasized that China supports the reform of the UN and its Security Council and understands and respects the Ezulwini consensus related to the UN reform. China's position of supporting Africa's bigger role in the UN Security Council remains unchanged. China expects to maintain communication and consultation with Mozambique on the reform of the UN. Luisa Diogo said that Mozambique is satisfied with the sound development of bilateral relations and thanks China for great support and assistance over a long period of time. The Mozambican government will continue to pursue the one-China policy and support China's grand cause of reunification. She said that Mozambique would like to maintain communication with China on the reform of the UN. When meeting with Najib Tun Razak, Wen made highly positive comments on the important measure of agreeing to conduct strategic cooperation between China and Malaysia that was taken last year. He added that China stands ready to work with Malaysia to actively push for the friendly cooperation in various areas according to the direction identified by both sides and make new contributions to the peace, stability and prosperity of this region. Najib Tun Razak said that Malaysia hopes to further enhance cooperation with China in the areas of economy and trade, energy resources, tourism and defense and push for greater development of bilateral relations.
