Jia Qinglin Holds Talks and Meets Respectively with Presidents of the Malaysian Senate and House of Representatives

On March 30, 2006, Chairman Jia Qinglin of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held talks with President of the Malaysian Senate Tan Sri Dr. Abdul Hamid bin Pawanteh and met with President of the Malaysian House of Representatives Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib in Kuala Lumpur. Both sides reached broad consensus on pushing for in-depth development of bilateral relations and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Jia conveyed the greetings from Chairman Wu Bangguo to Hamid and Ramli respectively. Hamid and Ramli asked Jia to convey their cordial greetings and best wishes to Wu.

During the talks and meeting, Jia said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties over 30 years, bilateral relations have been developing rapidly. Both sides have maintained close high-level exchanges, which has played an irreplaceable important role in advancing mutual political trust and the development of bilateral relations. Bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the areas of economy & trade, agriculture, tourism, education and culture have scored remarkable achievements and the cooperation in related large programs has made positive headway. Both sides also maintained close coordination and cooperation in major international and regional issues. Facts have proven that to develop bilateral good-neighborly friendship has brought tangible benefits to both peoples and made positive contributions to stability, prosperity and development of this region.

Jia said that both sides are close neighbors sharing a profound traditional friendship and are advancing strategic cooperation according to the consensus reached by their leaders. China would like to join hands with Malaysia in the principle of "treating neighbors well and as partners" to carry forward bilateral traditional friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and push for new progress of bilateral strategic cooperation so that both countries will remain good friends that rely on each other and good partners in mutually beneficial cooperation forever.

Hamid and Ramli indicated that since both sides started exchanges over 1,000 years ago, they have always maintained peaceful, mutually beneficial relations. In recent years, both sides have witnessed frequent exchanges of visits between their leaders, greater progress in bilateral relations and closer economic and trade ties and China has become one of Malaysia's most important trading partners. China is a great country with a time-honored civilization and since the reform and opening up, it has scored achievements attracting worldwide attention and continued to keep enormous vitality and development potential. Malaysia attaches great importance to developing relations with China and would like to work with China to continuously push for cooperation in the areas of economy & trade, investment and tourism and bring more benefits to both countries and their people.

After briefing on related work of the CPPCC, Jia indicated that the CPPCC would like to conduct various forms of exchanges at all levels with the Malaysian Parliament and make new contributions to all-round development of bilateral cooperative relations of good-neighborly friendship and advancing friendship between both peoples.

Hamid and Ramli said that the Malaysian Parliament gives top priority to exchanges with the CPPCC and would like to further strengthen friendly exchanges and cooperation with the CPPCC.

Jia appreciated and thanked the Malaysian government and parliament for adhering to the one-China policy for a long period of time and offering understanding and support on the Taiwan question. Hamid and Ramli indicated that Malaysia has always held that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, fully recognizes that the Taiwan question is a principled question involving China's core interest and will as always adhere to the one-China principle.

Both sides also introduced the developments and development planning of their respective countries.
