Mongolian Leaders Meet with Yang Jiechi

On July 2, 2007, Mongolian President Nambaryn Enkhbayar, Prime Minister Miegombyn Enkhbold and Chairman of Parliament Danzan Lundeejantsan met separately with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Ulan Bator.
In his meeting with Yang, Enkhbayar said that the friendly cooperative relations in various fields are developing rapidly between Mongolia and China, especially in the fields of economy and trade, which the Mongolian side is delighted with. Mongolia attaches importance to boosting the cooperation of mutual benefit in the fields of resources and infrastructure and hopes to enhance cooperation with China continuously. The president spoke highly of China's significant role and active efforts in maintaining peace and stability in northeast Asia and resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula. He said that Mongolia hopes to strengthen the two countries' cooperation in the regions of central Asia, northeast Asia and over other international issues.
Yang said China-Mongolia relations have been developing very well and the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries is being implemented with fruitful exchanges and cooperation in all areas. The two governments and peoples share the aspiration of advancing bilateral ties and there is huge potential for their cooperation. China is ready to work with Mongolia to tap complementary advantages, deepen pragmatic cooperation and achieve mutual benefits, said Yang. China attaches importance to Mongolia's role in regional cooperation, supporting Mongolia to participate in the multilateral cooperation mechanism in northeast Asia and to strengthen cooperation with China in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, he added.
When meeting with Enkhbold, Yang said the Chinese government attaches great importance to economic and trade cooperation with Mongolia and always takes realizing mutual benefits and a win-win situation as a basic starting point for promoting cooperation. Yang pledged to work with Mongolia based on the policy of "guidance by the government, businesses' participation and market operation" to establish and improve cooperation mechanism, advance key cooperation projects and properly resolve issues of mutual concern, in a bid to push forward bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Enkhbold, in his meeting with Yang, said that China is the biggest trade partner and investor to Mongolia, expressing his belief that the ongoing economic cooperation between the two countries will surely promote Mongolia's socio-economic development. He also pledged Mongolia will strengthen equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with China on mineral resources and infrastructure construction.
When meeting with Lundeejantsan, Yang said it is an unswerving policy of the Chinese government to consolidate and develop friendly cooperation with Mongolia. China would steadfastly respect Mongolia's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the development road chosen by the Mongolian people, he said, expressing hope that the two countries will remain good neighbors, friends and partners forever. China hopes the legislative bodies of the two countries will continue various forms of exchanges to lay a solid foundation for bilateral ties, added Yang. Lundeejantsan said it is a long-standing policy of Mongolia to develop good-neighborly and friendly relations and cooperation of equality and mutual benefits with China. Mongolia always holds that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole China. He reiterated that Mongolia would adhere to the one-China policy, vowed that the Mongolian parliament will strengthen its cooperation with the National People's Congress (NPC) of China so as to contribute to bilateral ties.
