Tang Jiaxuan Meets with Myanmar Guest

On June 5, 2007, Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met with visiting First Secretary of Myanmar State Peace and Development Council Thein Sein at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Tang said China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors and both peoples share profound Pauk-Phaw friendship, adding that their mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields has produced remarkable results. China will further the good-neighborly relationship with Myanmar and promote pragmatic cooperation in trade and drug enforcement, Tang said. Thein Sein briefed Tang on the domestic situation in Myanmar. Tang said China sincerely hoped Myanmar could maintain stability, national concord and economic development, which serve the fundamental interests of Myanmar people and are conducive to regional peace, stability and development. Thein Sein said Myanmar will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China to further bilateral friendship, and Myanmar appreciates the support and assistance from the Chinese government and people for Myanmar's national construction and economic development. Thein Sein is visiting China at the invitation of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. Zhang Chunsheng, member of the Law Commission of the National People's Congress (NPC), and Assistant Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai attended the meeting.
