
On the afternoon of April 22, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with King Gyanendra of Nepal in Jakarta. Both sides exchanged opinions on issues of common concern including strengthening China-Nepal relations.
Hu said that Nepal is a friendly neighbor of China and the history of friendly exchanges between the two countries dates back to thousands of years ago. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties the bilateral relations have witnessed long-term development and cooperation in various fields keeps expanding. The ever developing China-Nepal good-neighborly friendship is a major part of China's foreign policy with its neighboring countries. Both China and Nepal face the tasks of developing the economy, improving people's living standards and maintaining social stability. China supports Nepal's efforts in those fields. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Nepal, and the Chinese government would take this opportunity to continue to deepen the bilateral exchanges and cooperation in all fields and constantly push forward the China-Nepal good-neighborly partnership from generation to generation in the spirit of being a good neighbor and a good partner and on the basis of the five principles of peaceful coexistence.
Gyanendra noted that China is a great neighbor of Nepal and Nepal sees China as a reliable and trustworthy friend. Nepal wishes to see prosperity and development of China and expects to strengthen the bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields, especially in economy and trade in a bid to accelerate the development of Nepal, enrich the connotation of bilateral cooperation and build new prospects for China-Nepal good-neighborly friendship.
