On March 3, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei held the seventh round of diplomatic consultation between China and Nepal with Nepal's Foreign Secretary Madhuraman Acharya in Kathmandu. He also met with Nepal's Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Chief of Army Staff Rukmangat Katwal, and attended a handover ceremony of equipment facilitating customs inspection system donated by China to Nepal.
Both sides made positive comments on the development of bilateral ties, agreeing that the relations have withstood the tests of changeable international situations and the changes in their domestic circumstances and can be held up as a model of equal, friendly and mutually beneficial relations between big and small countries. He said China and Nepal are good neighbors, partners and brothers and the Chinese government has always adhered to the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs and respected the social system and development path chosen by Nepal according to its national conditions. He expressed belief that the Nepalese people would be able to achieve national peace, social stability and economic growth. China is ready to continue offering assistance within its ability to Nepal and play a positive constructive role in Nepal's economic and social development.
The Nepalese side reaffirmed that Nepal adheres to the one-China policy and is staunchly opposed to "Taiwan independence" and "the referendum on UN membership", adding that Nepal will not allow the "Tibet independence" forces to use Nepal's territory to conduct any activities aimed at sabotaging the Beijing Olympics.
