2007/08/02

On August 2, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met respectively with Republic of Korea (ROK) Foreign Minister Song Min-soon and Pakistani Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar in Manila.

During their meeting, the Chinese and ROK foreign ministers agreed that bilateral relations have been developing smoothly with closer exchanges and cooperation in all areas. Both sides will soon celebrate the 15th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, which serves as a favorable opportunity to push the ties to a higher level, they said.

Both sides emphasized that to further consolidate and develop bilateral ties is in the fundamental interest of both peoples and is also conducive to this region's peace, stability and development. The two foreign ministers pledged their joint efforts to deepen pragmatic cooperation in all areas, so as to push for sound and stable development of bilateral relations.

Both sides also vowed to continue close cooperation for steady progress of the six-party talks and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Yang extended his condolences and sympathy over the death of ROK hostages killed in Afghanistan, expressing hope that the other hostages will return home safely at an early date.

At another separate meeting, Yang and Bakhtyar agreed that China and Pakistan are traditional friendly neighbors with all-weather friendship and all-round cooperation. With the joint efforts of both sides, bilateral cooperation in all areas has been advancing steadily with the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) officially launched and the Joint Investment Company making headway. Both sides cherish very much their traditional friendship and are ready to take earnest measures to safeguard interests of both peoples, promote mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas and push the China-Pakistan strategic partnership to a new level.
