On December 19, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun met with Nayef Hawatmeh, general secretary of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP).

During the meeting, Zhai said China supports Palestine and Israel to resolve their disputes through political negotiations. He hoped that both sides will seize the opportunity to reach a peace agreement as soon as possible and achieve peaceful co-existence between the two States of Palestine and Israel.

Hawatmeh appreciated China's position on the peace talks between Palestine and Israel and thanked for China's long-standing disinterested support and assistance to Palestine. He expressed hope that China will play a bigger role in promoting peace talks between Palestine and Israel and advancing the peace process in the Middle East.

Hawatmeh is visiting China at the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
