Zeng Qinghong Holds Talks with Philippine Vice President Noli de Castro

2006/06/06

On the afternoon of June 5, 2006, Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong held talks with his Philippine counterpart Noli de Castro in the Great Hall of the People.

On behalf of the Chinese government and people, Zeng welcomed Noli de Castro's visit to China on the eve of the 31st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, indicating that bilateral traditional friendship goes back to ancient times and bilateral relations have witnessed rapid development since the establishment of diplomatic ties with effective cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, education and culture. The progress in joint exploitation of South China Sea by China, the Philippines and Vietnam has made historic contributions for South China Sea to become a sea of friendship and cooperation. It is hoped that both sides will maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen friendly contact in all areas, deepen bilateral strategic cooperation and jointly advance China-ASEAN relations and East Asia cooperation.

Noli de Castro noted that bilateral relationship has reached its highest level in history and entered its prime time for development. The Philippines deems China an important friend, neighbor and relative. Deepened bilateral cooperation in all areas has not only brought generous interest to both peoples, but also promoted prosperity and stability of East Asia. The Philippines would like to further strengthen cooperation with China in the areas of trade, investment, mineral resources, culture and tourism. The Philippine side will continue to abide by the one-China policy.

Prior to the talks, Zeng held a welcome ceremony for Noli de Castro at the Square outside the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People. Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) He Luli, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Li Zhaozhuo and other officials attended the welcome ceremony.
