On March 21, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with ROK Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yu Myung-hwan. Both sides agreed to make joint efforts to strengthen strategic communication, expand economic and trade cooperation and push forward humanities contacts, so as to further enhance China-ROK relations and promote peace and development of this region.

When talking about the Beijing Olympic Games, Yu Myung-hwan stressed his country's full support for the event and his country's opposition to politicizing the Games. He also expressed belief that the Beijing Olympic Games will be a great festivity for Asia and the world at large.

Both sides also exchanged views on the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and other issues.
