Sri Lanka Supports the Adoption of the Anti-Secession Law by China's National People's Congress

2005/03/17

On March 17, 2005, the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry issued a statement supporting the adoption of the Anti-Secession Law by China's National People's Congress.

The statement points out "Sri Lanka has been consistently sticking to the one-China policy, believing Taiwan is an inalienable part of the People's Republic of China.

Sri Lanka reiterates its support for China on taking legislative measures to oppose the splitting of the country by the so-called separatist forces.

Sri Lanka is opposed to any form of separatist activities and fully supports China's peaceful reunification process. We welcome the continuously increasing economic and other exchanges across the Taiwan Straits, including the promotion of three direct links, namely direct trade, direct postal communication and direct transportation.

The Anti-Secession Law adopted by China's National People's Congress on March 14 provides a warranty for the peaceful reunification of the country, maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits and safeguarding the interests of the whole Chinese nation."
