2007/02/27

On February 27, 2007, Thai Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont met in Bangkok with visiting Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan and both sides held talks in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.

Tang conveyed to Surayud the cordial greetings and an invitation for a visit to China from Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. The Chinese State Councilor said China and Thailand are good friends, neighbors and partners. Bilateral ties have been developing soundly and steadily since the establishment of diplomatic ties 32 years ago. Both sides have built up mutual political trust and expanded consensus and common interest with broad mutually beneficial cooperation and deepened friendly exchanges in all areas. The enhanced cooperation between the two countries not only benefits the two peoples, but also contributes to regional stability and prosperity, added Tang.

China would maintain the policy of promoting good-neighborly and friendly relations and mutually-beneficial cooperation between the two countries, no matter what changes occur in international political climate, Tang said.

Tang made positive comments on the efforts of the Thai government under the leadership of Surayud to promote social stability, economic growth and Sino-Thai friendly cooperation.

Surayud said that Thailand and China have kept a close, steady and comprehensive cooperative relationship, and the two countries share an eternal friendship. He expressed thanks for China's precious support to the Thai government and looked forward to the visit to China as early as possible.
