Thai King Bhumibol Meets with Tang Jiaxuan

On February 28, 2007, King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej met in Bangkok with Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan in a cordial atmosphere.

Tang conveyed to the King the cordial greetings from Chinese President Hu Jintao. King Bhumibol expressed thanks for this and asked Tang to convey his best wishes to President Hu.

The Chinese state councilor spoke highly of the enormous contribution by King Bhumibol and the Thai Royal Family in promoting long-term stable development of Sino-Thai relationship all through the years and warmly congratulated the monarch on his 60th anniversary of ascension to the Throne and his 80th birthday. Tang said bilateral ties enjoy a solid foundation and the two peoples share a close relationship. China attaches great importance to the Sino-Thai strategic cooperative ties and adheres to its friendly policy towards Thailand, he said, expressing China's willingness to work with Thailand to push bilateral ties to a new level.

The King expressed his appreciation for China's support to the Thai government, and for a free aid of 8 million yuan (1.05 million U.S. dollars) offered by China to a royal project for Thailand's hill tribe development. Bhumibol appreciated China's achievements in economic and social development and congratulated on the major progress of China's Three Gorge project, adding that this is a good deed the people-oriented government of China has done for its people.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei and Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Zhang Jiuhuan attended the meeting.
