Yang Jiechi Meets with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem

On May 18, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in Beijing with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, who is accompanying Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet on a China visit. Yang said China attaches great importance to ties with Vietnam and is ready to make joint efforts with it to seriously carry out the important consensus reached between leaders of the two countries on promoting all-round, in-depth development of bilateral ties, to maintain the momentum of high-level visits and to give play to the bilateral cooperation steering committee. Yang pledged that China is ready to join hands with Vietnam to deepen cooperation in the areas of politics, trade, technology, culture and education, and strengthen coordination in international and regional affairs, so as to push for long-term steady development of bilateral good-neighborly friendship and comprehensive cooperation. Pham Gia Khiem said Vietnam would like to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China and earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. Vietnam is also willing to deepen bilateral friendly cooperation in all areas and well plan the 2nd meeting of bilateral cooperation steering committee and other events to upgrade bilateral ties to a higher level, he added. Both sides also exchanged views on how to strengthen cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries and other issues of common concern.
