China Lodges A Solemn Representation to Japan for the Wrong Remarks on Taiwan Made by Japanese Foreign Minister On March 9, at the instruction of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the top official of the Department of Asian Affairs summoned the officials of the Japanese embassy in China for an urgent meeting and lodged a solemn representation to Japan for the wrong remarks on Taiwan made by Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso in Japan's National Diet this morning. As the top official responsible for Japanese foreign affairs, Taro Aso openly claimed during the parliamentary debate that Taiwan is "a law-governed country, as its democracy is fairly mature and liberalism has taken root in its economy. In many ways, it is a country that can share Japan's values". The remarks constitute reckless interference in China's internal affairs, territory and sovereignty, and China feels shocked and indignant and lodges strong protest to Japan, said the head of the Department of Asian Affairs. China demands Japan to scrupulously abide by related principles of China-Japan Joint Statement, faithfully fulfill its commitments on the Taiwan question, eliminate the negative impact of Aso's wrong remarks and refrain from making new troubles to China-Japan relations.
