On December 21, 2006, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei met with a delegation headed by Director-General for Protocol and Consular Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Handriyo Kusumo Priyo, who was here in China for consular consultations. He welcomed the delegation to visit China for consultations, pointing out that bilateral relations have been developing soundly and the strategic partnership between the two countries has helped push the ties to a new historical height. The strengthened cooperation between consular agencies of the two countries is conducive to promoting and standardizing personnel exchanges and will facilitate bilateral cooperation in the areas of politics, economy, trade, culture, science and technology. The development of consular relations requires content-specific treaties to be signed between both sides so as to standardize consular activities in legal forms, he said. He hoped both sides will exchange views in a friendly and candid manner and strive to reach consensus on issues of mutual concern.
